Georgiy Parkhomenko, chief physician of Noviy Zir Medical Center, about his love for his profession, music and children
"A surgeon's life is devoted to one main goal - to treat the patient. These may be big words, but it is true".
My choice of ophthalmology profession was largely influenced by the works of Svyatoslav Nikolayevich Fyodorov. At one time my father subscribed to a large number of periodicals, such as "Science and Life", "Knowledge is Power". And practically every issue contained publications related to new achievements in ophthalmosurgery, stories of people's enlightenment, just on the basis of Fyodorov Institute. And that was so interesting that it determined my choice. Even entering the institute, I decided that I would become an ophthalmologist.
We didn't have doctors in our family. My mother was fond of herbal medicine, had correspondence with famous homeopaths, in particular, with Stepanov, a Kiev professor. And we collected herbs fanatically as a family. The tea we drank daily included more than 150 herbs that my mother collected with her own hands. My father was a high-class engineer, a candidate of science, a laureate of the State Prize. He had many inventions and scientific developments. Thanks to his patents, the family even now receives royalties. He worked a lot at his desk, including at home. And I wanted to be more active, connected with people. And medicine turned out to be what suited me.
"I really love my profession. Because every day is a quest, a new mystery... You get a real pleasure when you manage to find the right answer and beat the disease."
